Blockworld is a first-person sandbox exploration game, similar to Minecraft right down to the world being made out of discrete cube-shaped blocks. It offers a wide variety of real-world biomes, enhanced HD graphics, block dyeing, among a few other features, and it supports keyboard, mouse and Xbox 360 gamepad control.
A Hardware Block
Despite the game's simple appearance, it is more demanding than you might expect. Blockworld does not run well on computers dating from more than a few years ago, which is disappointing. It does, however, provide plenty to explore for those with reasonably modern machines: there's an arctic biome, for example, as well as a more tropical biome. The game is not particularly fantastic, and focuses mostly on a wide array of real-world biomes, except for the dyes. With dyes, you can change the colours of both items and blocks... meaning if you want yellow snow, or even pink snow, you can have it.
Fun For An Afternoon, Or Ten
Overall, Blockworld is a great game for anyone who enjoys sandbox building. The controls take some getting used to, unless you use an Xbox 360 gamepad, but for a game that you may be playing for weeks or months, it could be worth learning them. If the idea of an infinite world where you make your own goals, build your own home, and pick your own battles sounds good to you, perhaps you should try Blockworld.
